How to choose a wedding cake in CyprusWhen choosing a cake for your wedding in Cyprus there's a few things you need to think about.  Here's our top tips...

For great wedding pictures...

We all know that the photographs are the lasting, tangible memory of your special day.

Every bride wants their wedding cake photographed in a beautiful location - by the sea, in a pretty garden, perhaps with the sun setting in the background.

Photographers understand this and make great pictures of couples cutting their wedding cake in the sunshine.

Using a wedding cake stand or even a wedding cake table (made to be taller) can make your wedding pictures much better because you won't be stooped over the cake for the 'cake-cutting' shot.

If your budget will stand it, choose a tiered wedding cake for the same reason. You won't regret it.

By working together, the photographer, the reception venue and the wedding cake supplier can help make the perfect picture for you to treasure.

How should the cake be displayed?

We try to make sure that the wedding cake is displayed on a high table with a cake stand so that it has 'presence' and will fit well into the pictures.

If the wedding cake has a front and a back, we make sure that the cake is displayed with its 'best side' to the front in the location provided by the venue and choosing the best background.

This means that we deliver and set up as close to the time the wedding cake is required as possible.

Can the cake stand the heat?

In Cyprus the wedding cake is usually cut straight after the wedding ceremony.

This means that it's likely to be standing in direct sunlight or dappled shade for about an hour before it's cut.

Between June and October the temperature is hot. Classic made English-style wedding cakes cope really well.  Decorated in sugarpasteSugarpaste is a smooth sugar coating with a soft sheen that can be any colour or royal icing they can be left on display for a number of hours.

That gives you the choice of cutting the wedding cake at the end of the meal rather than directly after the ceremony.

We're often asked for buttercream swirls on cup cakes or cakes coated in chocolate.  Nice idea, but what'll happen in the sunshine?

As we try to create exactly what you want, we need lots of information about where the wedding cake will be displayed and how long for.

We'll know if something's not going to work, and we'll come up with alternatives that'll delight you, be great to eat and will look good in your photographs.

Wedding Cakes in Cyprus

Enjoy your cake!

Traditionally, Cypriot wedding cakes are light, soft and creamy and are kept in the fridge until the moment they are required for cutting.

So, having spent money on the centrepiece of the wedding reception, the couple and their guests have very little time to admire the creation.

All guests appreciate a really beautiful wedding cake so it makes sense to have one that can be enjoyed throughout your wedding reception.

Beware of 'wedding package' cakes

Talking about beautiful cakes, there are many wedding 'packages' that offer a one tier wedding cake.

Whilst they 'fit the bill' for small, intimate weddings they often look insignificant, particularly when placed directly on a dining table.

If the bride and groom are even moderately tall, they'll have to bend over to get themselves and the wedding cake into the photo - not elegant!

Go for height

Stacked wedding cakes have become very popular.  They're easy to put together and easy to deliver.

Even if you're only having a few guests, a wedding cake will look bigger and more impressive with the use of pillars, floating cake stands or all types of separators, and for very little extra cost.

After all, your wedding is one of the most important events of your life...

You need lots of 'side'

Celebration cakes should be deep and in proportion to their height.

You can't compare wedding cake prices with 'ordinary' or 'teatime' cakes.

A good wedding cake designer will create a cake that has plenty of 'side' as opposed to 'top'.  That's because the wedding cake as a whole is viewed from an angle, not from overhead.

Lots to think about.  We can help...

There are lots of points for you to think about and a good wedding cake designer will guide you through the whole process.

Kind Words

  • Hi Hunni

Just wanted to say we are back in cold UK, not loving it much. Really didn't want to leave lol.

We both wanted to say thank you for making the most amazing cake, I only wish I had ordered a bigger one, we appeared to have some greedy guests lol!! I loved it, it tasted amazing, I think everyone went back for seconds and possibly thirds, well, apart from me - I was too full I think with all the excitement of the day. I am pleased that everyone enjoyed and all the guests said how gorgeous it looked.

I would also like to thank you for all your support on the build up to the wedding, I have to say between you and Nicky of Cyprus Images you have both been amazing and such lovely people too, which made things so easy.

Lots of Love, Kirsty & Steve xxx
